Friday Funnies

When the Christmas decorations come out, the cats lose their furry little minds. In the less than 5 minutes it took for me to put batteries in the wreath and test it, I had no less than 3 cats chewing on it.πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ Nyx (pictured) was the worst offender and got highly indignant when I took it outside.

  1. Ha ha – hope Nyx does not run outside to finish her handiwork. My next-door neighbor lost her well-behaved cat to dementia, so after a while she got a shelter pet that she named Sassy. She put her tall Victorian-inspired Christmas tree up and went to work. When she pulled into the driveway that night, she saw the living room sheers were torn, the tree was down and couldn’t get into the house fast enough. Sassy had clawed the wide ribbons (which went from the top of the tree to the bottom) to shreds, bulbs were broken, the angel was smashed and lights mangled and Sassy was nowhere to be seen. She found her on the top of her bedroom door, Marge had to climb up to grab her and returned her to the shelter the next day. The tree was so mangled and tattered she got rid of it.

    • Awww, poor Sassy. I hope she found a new owner that was a better match. For the most part, we’re used to cats and Christmas trees; they’re going to climb, it’s just their nature. When we had a full-sized tree, we took extra precautions to keep to keep them from knocking it down. Actually, we do the same with our current smaller tree. This is the first year we’ve considered an ornament-less tree. Roxie, our kitten, is a complete kleptomaniac. She has removed half of the magnets from the fridge so dangly ornaments don’t stand a chance. Odds are she will have matured by next year and be less of a risk to the tree.

      • Marge did march her back to the shelter. After having Missy for so many years, it was disheartening to have a misbehaving cat. In fact she took Missy to the vet because she had started hissing at her and arching her back, uncharacteristic for her to do this and she sprayed on the couch. She learned Missy had early dementia. So she was blessed with good luck with a cat for many years. I never thought of the climbing aspect being characteristic … I have never had a cat as I’m allergic to them.
